**Ko wai koe | About You**

You will be based in Burwood Spinal Unit (BSU) for the general medicine trainees coming in for rotational run (6months),if you are choosing to be on the advanced training curriculum in Rehabilitation Medicine you will be part of the Adult Rehabilitation Umbrella which will take you to Neurorehabilitation ward (BARU) for your essential modules for your Rehabilitation Medicine Curriculum which is generally a 4 year curriculum.

BSU has 30 beds, CG have 14 beds. BSU has 3 SMO, 2 Registrars 1 HO and BARU has 2 SMO and 1Registrar.

BSU is one of the 2 national services for Spinal Cord injury and the catchment area is anything south of Taupo in the North Island to Invercargill down south. You will have all round exposure to management of SCI patients including secondary complications related to SCI. There is good exposure to urological issues secondary to SCI with in house Urologist presence. There is good exposure to spinal orthopaedic relevant to SCI with weekly X-Ray meetings on Friday. BARU offers good exposure to all aspects of neurorehabilitation including stroke, reconditioning, acquired brain injury.

There is a good teaching arrangement which includes bed side teaching, Wednesday morning national teaching session and teaching training opportunities part of IDT. There is encouragement to research and having NZSCIR (New Zealand National Spinal Cord Impairment Registry) since 2016 gives you plenty of opportunity to do some hands-on research.
