Manawatu District ManawatuWanganui, New Zealand Hospice Whanganui Full time

Here at Hospice Whanganui, we believe in supporting our patients to live their best life possible with the time they have left. We're here to anticipate and respond to all specialist palliative care needs, and to help our patients and their whānau remain in control of all decisions that affect them as they come to terms with life-limiting illness. As part of this, we have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join our small but dynamic interdisciplinary team in this beautiful part of New Zealand.

Whanganui city is nestled within Whanganui National Park and is situated centrally between the capital city of Wellington, the university city of Palmerston North, and the National Parks of Tongariro and Taranaki. Being a city of only around 55,000 people, there's a strong sense of community here, and you can still commute across town in 10 minutes or less. We're renowned for our arts scene, with one of our many heritage buildings housing the New Zealand Centre for Glass Art; and we have a growing café culture, with a number of artisan bakers and growers supplying local businesses and showcasing their produce every Saturday at the popular Riverside Market.

The Whanganui River is itself revered as part of one of New Zealand's Great Walks, winding down from the mountains of the central plateau to the volcanic sands of our rugged coastline. So, whether you have a love for high-octane activities like hiking, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, climbing, motocross or surfing; or if you prefer to use your downtime for a gentle walk or cycle through one of our many parks, a spot of retail therapy, a wander around our galleries and urban murals, or simply an opportunity to sit by the river and enjoy a good coffee and some freshly baked sourdough, Whanganui pretty much covers all bases.

This is a varied and dynamic role, in one of the few fields of healthcare that not only allows but encourages you to spend real time with your patients and their whānau/family. We consider ourselves privileged to do the work we do, and we understand that we can only do it well if we take the time to connect in a meaningful way with our people, to help them do things their way, and in the environment that is most meaningful to them.

For that reason, most of our work is done in the community, in the homes of our patients and their whānau. We also have a small, five-bed in-patient unit which can be used for acute symptom management or end of life cares, where this is the wish of the patient. We recognise that people are best cared for by their communities, and as such we work closely with local GPs, hospital teams, aged care facilities, home care providers and other community services involved in the ongoing support of our patients.

The core values of Hospice Whanganui are:

- We do the right thing (Manaakitanga, Courage and Integrity)
- We are stronger together (Kotahitanga, One Team, Partnership)
- We always strive for the best (Excellence, Aspirational and Professional)

If you're looking for flexible opportunities to build your knowledge of specialist palliative care medicine through hands-on work and supported training, as well as being involved in training others; and if you believe that everyone has a right to excellent healthcare and wellbeing in the final months of their life, we would love to hear from you.

The remuneration for this role is in the range of $120,000 - $140,000 annually.
