We have two positions available for Risk, Security & Assurance Advisors - join the Customs Whanau

As part of our Risk, Security and Assurance (RS&A) team you'll be helping to provide Customs' Comptroller with organisational confidence through independent assurance on Customs' processes and controls; as well as advisory services across a range of security, integrity, and risk-related matters.

**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role**

The Risk, Security and Assurance team provide credible and accurate advice on organisational risk, security and assurance matters facing Customs. You'll be systematic and logical and provide high quality, efficient support and advice. Working closely with the Risk, Security and Assurance Principal and Senior Advisors, this role actively contributes to the RS&A centre of excellence approach across the range of risk, security and assurance matters, to ensure Customs' and its people are safe.

The Risk, Security & Assurance Advisor helps Customs achieve its objectives by:
offering a practical and flexible approach to best meet the needs of all stakeholders.
- providing advice to staff at all levels of Customs on how to improve the control environment and business processes.
- offering risk-based assessment of exceptions and incidents to provide insights to ensure Customs' policies, processes and systems are robust.
- analysing information to identify findings, trends and gaps for future focus.
- advising and contributing to Customs' protective security, risk management and integrity programmes to identify, report and respond to issues facing Customs.
- managing the NZ Customs Vetting System and maintaining the database for all security clearances.
- liaising with partner agencies to ensure security clearances are actioned in a timely manner.

Do you want to 'do the right thing'? We're looking for a risk, security and assurance professional who has common sense, is both logical and analytical, with strong judgement and 'people skills'. It goes without saying that you will have excellent attention to detail, critical analysis and writing skills that enable concise reporting of trends, outcomes, and findings. Your ability to translate data to meaningful graphics in an easy-to-understand manner would be an advantage.

Ideally, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification, or have equivalent work experience. Some public sector experience, knowledge and understanding of government processes would be helpful.

To be successful in the role, you'll need to be able to demonstrate the following:

- Ability to articulate and deliver information and advice on risks to key stakeholders in a diplomatic way and provide a source of guidance for others.
- Experience in working in a busy team, working flexibly and prioritising work demands to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
- An approachable and open operating style linked to a 'can do' attitude and desire to find workable solutions for RS&A matters that meet the needs of customers and are compliant with regulatory and policy requirement.
- Effectively manage own performance and support the effective performance of the team to achieve Customs' goals and objectives.
- Strong problem-solving capability, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and offer thoughtful solutions.
- the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret* security clearance.
