**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

During this pivotal time in Aotearoa's Health Sector, we are seeking an experienced leader, charged with leading a transformational programme of work that influences the collective accountability for maintaining and enhancing Hospital and Specialist Services, and prioritising the implementation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supporting Te Whatu Ora priorities. The **Director, Specialist Mental Health & Addictions** is a senior member of the Hospital and Specialist Services Senior Leadership team within Te Whatu Ora and will support the transformation of the Mental Health & Addictions System, and influences and supports the leadership team, including regional directors to deliver and improve services underpinned by prioritization of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supporting Te Whatu Ora priorities and working in partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora and the Commissioning leads.

The Director will provide strategic and expert leadership for mental health, addictions and associated services across Hospital and Specialist Services to achieve equity of outcome, with a particular focus on outcomes among our Māori communities and other priority populations. Working in partnership with the H&SS leadership and colleagues at Te Aka Whai Ora, you will support service delivery, risk management and improvement. In addition, the Director will provide specialist advice related to mental health, addictions and intellectual disability issues to Regional Director's and their senior teams to ensure delivery against agreed targets and priorities while supporting work to improve access for whānau affected by disability and location.

- Relevant post graduate qualification in health or mental health professional qualification or similar, desirable but not essential.
- A strong understanding of NZ's health system with experience providing local &/or regional professional and clinical governance leadership
- Proven experience successfully leading clinical teams through change and achieving improved results while navigating a highly nuanced and complex system
- Experience managing clinical variation to improve outcomes for patients and whānau.
- The ability to lead change across the health sector with experience working across boundaries, inter-agency, inter-professionally inter-sectorial.
- Can demonstrate they have given meaningful effect to the expectations outlined in Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their position(s)/at a leadership level
