At Te Tari Taiwhenua Department of Internal Affairs, our purpose is to serve and connect people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous and respected nation. In other words, it's all about helping to make New Zealand better for New Zealanders.
The Regulatory Services Group has oversight of three large regulatory systems: Anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, Charities Services and Gambling, and one smaller regulatory system: Private Security Personnel. We are a responsive risk-based regulator that uses innovation and collaboration to maximise our impact to achieve outcomes for New Zealand communities.
The Investigator role supports the work of the Investigations team within Regulatory Services, that is responsible on serious and complex gambling related investigations and performing the functions of the Complaints, Investigation and Prosecution Unit (CIPU) relating to the investigation of complaints against security operators under the Private Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010. We work collaboratively with business units in DIA and with external law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
This Investigator role will have a focus on the CIPU work programme.
As an Investigator, you will appreciate that investigations are an important tool in achieving favourable outcomes for the community. You will have excellent relationship management skills that enable you to work with other investigators and stakeholders across the systems. As an investigator you will have proven professional skills, including:
- successful experience in managing investigations through to enforcement as officer in charge and giving evidence in criminal court and civil / and presenting cases in tribunal hearing settings;
- superior communication skills, especially evidential interviewing and relationship building;
- a strong understanding of regulatory theory and sound experience of regulatory practice;
- the ability to drive investigations to timely and appropriate outcomes.
- operational field experience in inspections, search warrants and conducting enquiries outside of the office would be advantageous.
