Te Puni Kokiri is the government's principal policy advisor on M ori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with M ori. This includes our mandate to promote M ori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.

This solicitor role is a dynamic and challenging one. It is a great opportunity to grow your knowledge of public sector matters and to gain a solid understanding of legal matters relating to the Treaty of Waitangi, M ori Affairs legislation and te ao M ori.

**Te whai w hitanga | The opportunity**

Based in Te Tari Matua, Poneke the Solicitor provides timely, accurate high quality, robust advice to our Manager Legal Services as part of a small team of 8 kaimahi. You will be providing legal advice on a wide range of matters including.
- Ministerial powers and responsibilities.
- Legislative compliance.
- The review of legislation impacting M ori.
- Contracts and other legal documentation.
- Law reform initiatives, policy projects and programme initiatives.
- The administration of M ori Trust Boards and other legislation administered by Te Puni Kokiri.

**Mou | About you**
- A law degree and are eligible to hold a practicing certificate.
- An understanding of the legal implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- High standards of analytical, written and oral communication.
- Ability to provide accurate and relevant legal advice.
- An understanding of tikanga and te ao M ori.
