Downer’s Infrastructure Delivery team is proud to be part of the South Alliance delivering the Ōtaki to North of Levin (Ō2NL) highway - a transformative project that will enhance safety, resilience, and connectivity for generations to come. As we build this critical link, we’re looking for an **Environmental Advisor**who’s passionate about protecting our natural environment while supporting the successful delivery of the project.
**Te**kōwhiringa | The Opportunity**
As an Environmental Advisor, you’ll play a key role in supporting a high-performing team by championing environmental performance and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the delivery of the Ō2NL highway project.
You’ll work closely with the Environmental Manager and operational teams to implement and monitor environmental objectives, manage compliance with the Resource Management Act (RMA) and consent conditions, and provide technical guidance on environmental risks and controls. Your role will also involve engaging with internal stakeholders such as construction teams, sustainability experts, and Mana Whenua partners, as well as external parties including councils and community groups.
- This is a full-time, fixed-term position, initially on a two-year contract, with the likelihood of extension. The role is based at the Ōtaki South Alliance office, with travel across the project as required.**About Ō2NL**:
The Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety, resilience and efficiency, as well as increasing transport choices for the area’s growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in Partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council.
This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach, with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region, led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. We are seeking excellent people for this unique opportunity to work and collaborate with leading industry organisations.
**Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills**
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline
- 2+ years’ experience in roles with an environmental focus; sustainability experience is a bonus but not essential.
- 2+ years’ experience in environmental roles or sustainability roles
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and associated regulations
- Proven knowledge of resource consent and compliance processesExperience implementing and working within environmental frameworks is desirable
