- Principal ConsultantOur client is an established and proven farm advisory consultancy with a national presence and their team of Farm Environmental Consultants offer multi-disciplinary advice to a wide range of stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
As a leading player in the industry, their competitive advantage and value proposition is to deliver profitable solutions for farming sustainability. Due to ongoing success and as part of their regional expansion strategy they now have a new opportunity for an experienced Principal Consultant, based in Southland.
You will become a key member of this motivated and collaborative team identifying growth opportunities; working directly with farmers and delivering superior consulting services; and providing innovative and value adding advice, guidance and expertise across the wider farm consulting areas. With their recent move to a hub model, the plan is then for you to build and lead a team of three rural professionals as the region develops. You and your team will deliver superior consulting services to shareholders and other industry stakeholders and delivery of quality farm environmental support and advice to many longstanding customers and industry stakeholders. The role will also see you support and lead the broader team’s development in relevant industry expertise.
The role:
- Collaborating with farmers to design farming systems which enable them to be more environmentally sustainable and achieve catchment reduction targets
- Building and leading a team of Farm Environmental Consultants
- Providing high-quality consulting services utilising expert knowledge of relevant specialities directly with a broad stakeholder base
- Driving technical innovation through the research, identification and implementation of existing, new and innovative solutions and modelling methodologies
- Development of and consulting on Farm Environmental Management Plans
Background and Skills:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant science and/or business field (agricultural science/ land management); postgraduate specialist degree in science or a farm related discipline
- Agriculture or environmental consultancy background and ideally in people leadership and/ or technical leadership
- Professional experience in environmental, financial, farm systems consulting, or other relevant agricultural fields
- Well networked and intimate understanding of farmers and a background dealing with multiple farms over time
- Knowledge or training in greenhouse gases (GHG) and/or nutrient management highly advantageous
- Certifications e.g. Farmax Accreditation or CNMA advantageous but not a must have
- Sound understanding of current environmental legislative and regulatory requirements
- Skill and experience producing effective Farm Environmental Management Plans
- Relationship management skills to assist farmers in strategic planning and succession planning
- Passionate about making a difference for New Zealand farming and farmers
- Experience in on-farm nutrient management across a range of farm systems
- Planning/ resource consenting for the agricultural sector
