The Department of Psychology is part of the Division of Sciences at the University of Otago, and consists of more than 80 academic and professional support staff. The Department has an excellent research culture and has been ranked in the top 50 Psychology Departments in the world since the inception of the QS world rankings. Excellent computing and technical facilities support the department’s large and varied teaching and research programmes.

**_The Role/Te mahi_**

We are currently searching for an Animal Technician to join the technical team in the Department of Psychology. In this role you will be responsible for general maintenance and care of laboratory animals in the department’s teaching and research programmes.

You will play the key role to ensure the animal laboratory students care for and handle the animals in accordance with animal ethics guidelines. This is a unique opportunity to enhance your expertise in this dynamic and rewarding career while making a significant contribution to on-going teaching and learning of students.

**_Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**

This position would suit someone who holds a New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, or relevant tertiary education. The successful applicant will be accustomed to working independently while at the same time operating as part of a team and also have:

- Experience in animal handling and monitoring.
- Good interpersonal, communication and team participation.
- Familiarity with computer systems.
- Good time-management.
- Tidy housekeeping skills in a complex facility environment.
- Be innovative, reliable and motivated.
- Ability to relate well to students, academic, professional and research staff.
