**About the role**

We are looking for a senior nurse to join the orthopaedic team in a dual role of Specialty Clinical Nurse (SCN) - Acute Co-ordinator/Research Nurse.

This role is critical to the management and co-ordination of orthopaedic acute trauma patients. You will work with the clinical staff in the orthopaedic service to ensure that the daily booking of trauma patients is timely and within best practice guidelines. You will attend the trauma meeting each morning (0730) Monday to Friday and will work with a dedicated team of surgeons to ensure that patients are triaged and allocated surgery dependent on available theatre time. This in the context of a busy service where patient needs must be prioritised according to acuity. The salary range for this role is MECA NZNO Senior Nurse Grade 2.

Ensuring that current systems and processes allow for efficiency while improving and developing the service as change occurs is a key part of the role. You will be responsible for communicating with vulnerable patients both as in-patients and whilst at home awaiting a surgery time.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to negotiate with key stakeholders in a busy and dynamic environment.

You - ll be supported by a dedicated and strong management team across both the Orthopaedic Clinic and Ward 6 North (Orthopaedic and Urology) whilst having the ability to develop your own leadership skills. It - s vital you can work well in a team as we value your contribution towards innovation, taking responsibility for you own professional development and working as part of a team with all that this encompasses.

This role is based in Wellington Regional Hospital, however you will be working closely with both Wellington and Kenepuru Operating Theatre staff.

This dual role has 0.2 FTE dedicated to coordinating research studies for the department and managing the data collection for the National hip fracture registry.

Skills & Experience
- Orthopaedic experience preferred
- Must have experience working in an acute setting
- Previous leadership experience
- Current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Relevant Post-Graduate qualification or working towards this.
