The Mahi Whakaara BCATS Programme Tutor is responsible for delivering practical and theoretical components of the building and construction curriculum to rangatahi (Māori youth) participating in the programme. The tutor will empower rangatahi by teaching foundational skills aligned with the BCATS (Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills) Level 1 and 2 standards while fostering a learning environment grounded in tikanga Māori, manaakitanga, and whanaungatanga.

Deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions on building and construction skills, tools, and techniques. You will facilitate workshops and assessments that meet the BCATS Level 1 and 2 unit standards. Ensure lessons are tailored to rangatahi needs, incorporating both practical and theoretical content.

**Assessment and Reporting**:

- Conduct regular assessments to track participants’ progress and competency.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment results, and feedback.
- Report participant outcomes and challenges to the Programme Manager.

**Mentorship and Support**:

- Act as a mentor and role model for rangatahi, inspiring them to pursue further education or employment in building trades.
- Provide guidance on career pathways within the building and construction industry.
- Offer additional support to participants as needed, including pastoral care.

**Essential**:

- Relevant building and construction qualifications (e.g., BCITO certifications, trade apprenticeship, or similar).
- Proven experience in the building and construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of Health and Safety standards in building environments.
- Understanding of tikanga Māori and a commitment to kaupapa Māori values.

**Desirable**:

- NZQA Assessor or equivalent qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience teaching or mentoring youth, particularly Māori rangatahi.
- Basic proficiency in Te Reo Māori or willingness to learn.

**Terms and Conditions**:

- ** Fixed term - 30 hrs pw/Jan-Apr 2025**
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate programme activities.
- Adherence to organisational policies and procedures, including safeguarding and confidentiality.
