Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.

This solicitor role is a dynamic and challenging one. It is a great opportunity to grow your knowledge of public sector matters and to gain a solid understanding of legal matters relating to the Treaty of Waitangi, Māori Affairs legislation and te ao Māori.

**Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity**

Based in Te Tari Matua, Pōneke the Solicitor provides timely, accurate high quality, robust advice to our Manager Legal Services as part of a small team of 8 kaimahi. You will be providing legal advice on a wide range of matters including.
- Ministerial powers and responsibilities.
- Legislative compliance.
- The review of legislation impacting Māori.
- Contracts and other legal documentation.
- Law reform initiatives, policy projects and programme initiatives.
- The administration of Māori Trust Boards and other legislation administered by Te Puni Kōkiri.

**Mōu | About you**
- A law degree and are eligible to hold a practicing certificate.
- An understanding of the legal implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- High standards of analytical, written and oral communication.
- Ability to provide accurate and relevant legal advice.
- An understanding of tikanga and te ao Māori.
