Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

**As a Psychologist or Special Education Advisor you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by**:

- Identifying patterns or contributing factors that may be influencing learning, well-being and behaviour
- Enhancing inclusive practices in early learning services, schools and other educational settings
- Providing professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families and building the capacity of those who are best placed to support the learning of children and young people
- Providing appropriate in-depth specialist assessment and analysis for evidenced informed interventions
- Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child's needs are complex.

As an Early Intervention Teacher you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by:

- Supporting transition points in the child's learning pathway such as transition into early childhood and to school as required
- Providing high quality learning support in accordance with the guiding principles, strands and goals of Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo
- Strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support the learning of children
- Assessing, collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of individual (or group) intervention plans.

Mōhou ake | About you

Psychologist - To be successful you will need:

- A Masters level tertiary qualification and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or equivalent.
- To be registered under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and to hold a current practicing certificate.
- Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information.
- Ability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings.

**Special Education Advisor** - To be successful you will need:

- A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) or Post-graduate Diploma in Special Education / Educational Psychology
- Experience working with children and young people with learning needs in a classroom or other relevant setting
- Experience of supporting other education professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with additional needs

**Early Intervention Teacher** - To be successful you will need:

- A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood)
- A post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position
- A minimum of three years teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour
- An understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes

**ALL 3 ROLES REQUIRE**
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
