**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**
The Strategic Treaty Policy and Treaty Capability team holds three unique and critical functions that will have an immediate and direct impact on both MPI and the Māori primary sector. This is an opportune time to make a lasting difference for Māori prosperity and economic development, given the recent release of Rautaki mo te Taurikura, the establishment of Deputy Director-General (DDG) Māori, and the exceptional potential of Māori agribusiness.
**The three critical functions are**:
**Responsiveness and Support**: Respond to priority internal and external Treaty and Māori relevant policy requests in a timely and effective manner. They will also provide support to the Office of the Tumuaki Tuarua to carry out their duties with confidence. This will involve providing sound advice that results in positive decisions aimed at elevating and growing the Māori Primary Sector.
**Capability**: Developing and increasing the treaty capability and knowledge within the policy and trade branch. They will achieve this by creating frameworks, tools, and advice that allow all people to access and engage with our treaty partners confidently and appropriately.
**Key Accountabilities**:
To provide timely, accurate, advice on the operation of policy frameworks, by monitoring and evaluating the results of policy initiatives and programmes in the primary sector.
To identify and report on trends and issues in the primary sector by liaising with sector participants, government agencies, Maori, and other relevant stakeholders
To assist in the development of legislative and regulatory instruments to express Government primary sector policy, by providing Ministers with clear, concise and relevant information on issues and options; amongst other processes.
To assist other Directorates and MPI branches to achieve the organisational strategy, by contributing to cross-Branch and cross-MPI work streams, projects and ad-hoc responses.
To support MPI's role as a trusted partner of the primary sector in achieving Government goals, through establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Maori, sector representatives, Government and non-Government agencies and other key stakeholders.
To support Ministers with primary sector portfolios by providing timely and relevant responses to Ministerial and Parliamentary questions, Official Information Act requests and preparing Ministerial correspondence.
For Senior Analysts, provide coaching, mentoring support, and advice to analysts
