The Translation Service is a busy office within the Department of Internal Affairs that collaborates across government to develop multilingual communications and materials for New Zealand's Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities.
We are looking for one energetic and experienced people leader with backgrounds in translation and interpreting, languages or multilingual cross-cultural communication. You will be leading one of two newly formed teams, one of administrators and translators and the other of translation project managers.
This is a senior position and your experience in working with languages, delivering excellent service and building strong working relationships with clients, providers and government stakeholders will be essential. These positions require effective people leaders who can build and support a strong team working in a busy and demanding field.
To be successful in this role, you will be an effective people leader and have experience working in the language industry, or will have worked in an organisation where multilingualism was the norm. You will have excellent communication skills, a proven track record for problem solving and providing excellent service to customers. You will improve operational processes and systems as well as explore new tools and develop new services as the available translation technologies improve and client requirements evolve. You will have an understanding of cross-cultural and linguistic issues and an ability to engage with stakeholders as an expert in the field.
Experience that will give you a considerable advantage, includes an in-depth understanding of core issues for Māori and Pasifika, in particular around te reo Māori and Pacific languages, or an in-depth understanding of the concerns and challenges facing our culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
If you thrive on cutting edge projects, a genuine challenge, and knowing that what you do has a genuine impact a diverse range of people, we would very much like to hear from you.
