**About the role**

We've got a rare opportunity for a Junior Energy Analyst to join our Wholesale Analytics team in Auckland. As part of our wider Wholesale team, you'll be joining a fascinating, complex part of our business that manages our electricity portfolio, carbon obligations, and diversified fuel types - gas, oil and LPG.

Reporting to our Wholesale Analytics Manager, your key responsibilities include:

- Undertake analysis to help optimise the Genesis generation, fuel utilisation, and sale mix.
- Develop and maintain models to ensure that they provide accurate, consistent, and timely analysis. Ensure Genesis has current and robust information available to support its analysis and decision-making.
- Use models effectively to depict simplified views of complexity and uncertainty. Use results, trends, and insights to inform and support decision-making across Wholesale Markets and the wider business.
- Identify, manage, and monitor market risks, including keeping abreast of industry developments and regulatory change.
- Work with, explore, and manipulate large datasets to understand energy market behaviour.

**About you**

We are looking for someone who is comfortable with numbers and data, with an inquisitive nature and ability to communicate findings and add value to commercial conversations.
- Qualification in a quantitative discipline e.g. mathematics/statistics/engineering/finance/IT
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to used at least one of the following: SQL, VBA, Python
- Experience using PowerBI would be advantageous
- A commercial and business-oriented mindset
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex problems and use critical thinking in developing a range of options/solutions.
