**_Te Kanohi (Mana Whenua Representative) Governance Positions_**
Waipā District Council is looking for up to four Te Kanohi (Mana Whenua Representatives) to join our team. Mana Whenua Representatives are governance roles, with full speaking and voting rights, on Council's four principal decision making Committees: Strategic Policy and Planning, Regulatory, Service Delivery, and Finance and Corporate.
We need people with a deep understanding of te reo me ngā tikanga, who are actively involved in their iwi, hapū and marae in the Waipā District. We are looking for people who possess a deep understanding of Mana Whenua values and want to be part of driving our innovative and community-focused organisation forward.
**What qualities are we looking for in this role?**
You will have an affinity for building effective relationships with elected members and Council staff and stakeholders, coupled with proven experience in participating in governance-level decision making.
You will be well versed with good decision-making requirements at a governance level and understand the importance and difference between governance and operations.
A good understanding of Council processes will be very useful to you as will be a willingness to develop a working knowledge of Council services, processes, powers, duties and constraints.
The Te Kanohi representative positions provide a real opportunity to provide a deeper iwi / Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principle perspective to Council decision-making and a direct connection to our Māori communities.
We seek to enhance the existing partnerships Council have with iwi and mana whenua across our community. We believe mana whenua representation in Council decision making will significantly contribute to Council's Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations to provide opportunities for Māori to contribute to local decision-making processes, and to foster Māori capacity for this purpose.
