- Salary range $111k to $132k depending on skills and experience Tēnei tūranga - About the role: Reporting to the Site Reliability Engineering team Lead, this position is a specialist position with the purpose of delivering and coordinating solutions for MBIE. The Release and Environments Manager will take ownership of planning and coordinating software and platform releases across multiple workstreams while seeking to continually improve ways of working. The role will work closely with other teams to ensure that environments are kept current and fit for purpose, and processes are reviewed and updated regularly.
About the team Quality Engineering is a newly established team at MBIE. As we move swiftly into becoming a Digital Agency, we are tasked with building quality checks and measures into our software and technical delivery. Our team is focused continually improving our ways of working and leveraging technology to drive this. This includes Cloud technology, automation, DevOps, and infrastructure as code.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills - able to communicate technical information to the understanding of a layperson
- Excellent interpersonal skills - able to influence and persuade, is comfortable championing processes across multiple user groups, adjusts style to needs of audience
- Sound relationship management skills - able to build and maintain effective working relationships
- Strong organisational skills - able to prioritise and effectively manage competing demands without any loss of quality or service
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience
- 4+ years’ experience in Release and Environment management including modern deployment practices using Azure Services, Pipelines, Containers, and Service Virtualisation, as well as on-Prem processes
- Experience with automation and integrating workflows
- Has demonstrated experience in working and integrating with SaaS products
- Experience in Cloud Tenancy Modelling and Management
- A curious mind and a desire to learn about technical innovations and how they may be applied to the MBIE environment
Pre-requisites
- A tertiary qualification, relevant IT certification or equivalent experience
- You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand Technology Outcomes
- Implement and improve release processes using modern deployment techniques
- Develop guidelines and educate teams on expectations when releasing
- Actively seek out opportunities to improve the overall service of the release process
- Baseline key metrics related to Release and Environments and seek to improve on them
- Ensure that delivery teams do not have elongated times for using environments
- Actively seek to produce value by building the right thing to provide the right business outcomes
- Defining best-practice standards around releases and DevOps practices to key external vendors
- Provide quality assurance checks and balances across deliverables at varying stages of the delivery cycle
- Work in partnership with internal customers advising them on how to use the platform enabling them to meet their business needs, resolve problems, and help them understand technical concepts as needed
- Produce detailed design documentation as required
- Engage and work alongside vendors to achieve a common outcome in the interests of MBIE
- Collaborate with external software vendors, product owners, lead architects and vendors to build out the capabilities on development and DevOps internally at MBIE
- Find effective ways to improve the responsiveness and flexibility of solutions which empowers our business users and the wider MBIE
- Ensure stakeholders are experiencing gains - through increased availability of useful best industry practice methodologies you and your team are creating
