**About the opportunity | Ngā whakamārama mō te tūnga**

The next Government Policy Statement (GPS) on land transport is expected in 2027 and will set out government priorities for system improvement and the construction and maintenance of state highways, local and rural roads, road policing, rail, public transport, and active transport modes.

GPS 2024 set out an ambitious land transport investment agenda, and the Ministry’s Investment team plays a central role in advising Ministers on the delivery of this agenda within available funding. GPS priorities, along with other rail, maritime, and aviation investments are considered as part of the annual Budget cycle, and the team coordinates advice to Ministers on this.

We’re looking for an experienced people manager, with good financial acumen and strong strategic thinking to lead the team.

In this influential role, you’ll provide expert advice on major government investments across all transport modes and take the lead in shaping the land transport investment system.

This position is Wellington based.

You will also bring:

- Extensive policy experience, with the ability to advocate, influence and articulate advice to Ministers, sector stakeholders and internal Ministry teams
- Ability to conceptualise and think creatively, analyse options, priorities and arguments, articulate clear concepts and influence thinking at strategic and operational levels
- Experience in leading and developing and mentoring a diverse team of professional staff to achieve ambitious goals
- Experience in stakeholder relations and building effective working partnerships with other organisations
- Experience of working in government, a sound understanding of the role of the public service and of working with Ministers, government departments and agencies
- Extensive experience in influencing, negotiation, relationship development and organisational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines
- Sound judgement, ability to make difficult decisions, prioritise what matters most, and manage risk
- A relevant tertiary qualification or extensive equivalent experience

**Salary range | Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau**

The base salary budget for this position is up to $226,557 per annum + KiwiSaver. The salary offered will reflect your skills and experience.
