**About the role**

We operate several venues in our Harae-roa building on campus at the University of Canterbury, ranging from the 1000-capacity Ngaio Marsh Theatre through to numerous conference and function rooms. We also use the spaces around the building to stage outdoor festivals, featuring live music and DJ sets spanning a wide range of genres.

Our productions serve not only our own student audiences, but also those brought in by our commercial clients when they hire us to stage their concerts, club nights and conferences.

Around our core crew of technical staff we employ casuals, including sound engineers. Their tasks include:

- Planning and delivery of live sound productions, from simple corporate presentations through to complex multi-artist live music gigs
- Mixing complex live music performances using the Midas M32 desk
- Creating monitor mixes either from FOH or on stage using a mobile device
- Tuning d&b amplifier/speaker systems using the R1 control software
- Microphone selection and placement for a wide range of live music performance types
- Management of efficient stage turnarounds between acts at a multi-artist gig
- Engineering conference audio, including streaming and using Q-Sys audio-visual systems
- Liaison with performers and clients to ensure that the highest professional standards are maintained, and that all parties have the best possible experience of working with the UCSA
- Pack in and pack down of equipment at events, including running cables and manual handling

**About You**
- Professional experience of mixing audio at live music performances
- Formal training and a qualification in sound engineering, or equivalent experience
- A willingness and ability to work any day of the week, often with an early-morning start or a late-night finish
- A positive and helpful attitude, a flexible approach and the ability to work well in a team
- The legal right currently to work in New Zealand
- An affinity for the performing arts
- An awareness of health and safety regulations as they relate to events, including electrical issues and working with high SPLs
