**About The opportunity | Ko te āheinga**:
We are looking for a Senior Governance Advisor to become an integral part of the Strategy and Governance team. The focus of this role is to provide safe, accurate and timely governance advice, guidance and support to elected members, the Chief Executive and Council staff, observing relevant legislation and regulations. You will be instrumental in providing assistance to ensure our team achieves its objectives. This includes delivering governance support to the Council and its committees, providing timely advice on statutory obligations, and managing representation arrangements for local elections.
**About you | E pā ana ki a koe**:
We are looking for someone with the ability to build and maintain strong and meaningful relationships with our tangata whenua partners and our various stakeholders, cognisant of Council’s statutory Treaty obligations and tikanga. You will have extensive experience in local government, with a focus on understanding council decision-making processes and a comprehensive understanding of the Local Government Act and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA).
You will also have:
- 3+ years relevant experience in a similar role
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification
- Strong understanding of Council meeting and decision-making processes
- Sound understanding of tikanga Māori and Māori values and an appreciation of how they relate to local government functions and resource management plan and policy development
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other database and information management systems
