Climate Change

Timaru, New Zealand Timaru District Council Full time

We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic student to join our Development Unit this summer. A major component of this role would be supporting youth engagement in developing our District’s Climate Change Strategy, and you will also be supporting the project teams leading Timaru CityTown (our urban regeneration programme) and our local strategic planning in Geraldine, Temuka, and Pleasant Point.

This is an awesome opportunity to develop your emerging skills in project coordination/administration, communication, community (and especially younger stakeholders’) engagement, and event coordination and logistics. You will have a willingness to be versatile, as the nature of the work will include administrative, technical, and community-contact aspects.

There is scope to learn from and add value to a range of council work streams that include climate change awareness and response (adaptation and mitigation), social/cultural considerations, environmental considerations, planning, building, roading, urban design, regulation/policy/strategy, and more. You will be a quick learner with transferable skills in research, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal tact.

This internship is a good match for an individual studying towards a career in any of the social, cultural, political, or environmental sciences, planning, engineering, or in communications/marketing.
