Bring your experience in high-risk industries to the National Grid
- Partner with Service Providers to drive excellence in safety management
- Be part of enabling a net-zero carbon future for Aotearoa New Zealand
- Drive a generative safety culture in a fast-paced role. Provide regional support and guidance with a varied and dynamic mix of office and site-based work_
Transpower has a dual role as New Zealand's owner and system operator of the National Grid. As the transmission network asset owner, we keep the energy flowing - transporting high voltage electricity from where it's generated to cities, towns, and some major industrial users nationwide.
We currently employ over 970 people nationwide and are growing, additionally we have contracted Service Providers nationally who are responsible for the delivery of construction, maintenance, and fault response on the National Grid.
**About the team**
Our Health and Safety team are professionals, responsible for influencing and supporting Transpower's Leadership Team, Line Managers, and employees in the delivery of health and safety performance across the organisation. The team leads the ongoing development of robust and effective Health and Safety strategies, systems, and programmes. They work both on and in the business, driving towards a fully generative safety culture to ensure healthy and safe workplaces for our employees, our service providers, and the public who encounter our work and assets.
**About the opportunities in Hamilton and Christchurch**
As one of five Health and Safety Practitioners (and a broader centralised but geographically diverse safety team of nine) you'll engage with a broad range of people, including our executives, and have continuous opportunities for on-the-job learning. You will provide ongoing regional support and guidance for Transpower employees, Service Providers, and Contractors.
You'll enjoy seeing parts of Aotearoa many don't, and a mix of both office-based and site-based work, often within high-risk electrical environments such as working within substations and in proximity to electrical transmission lines.
Our people rate their satisfaction with health and safety highest in our engagement survey because it matters to us all, and from our Board down, we really care. The scale, criticality, and complexity of our state-owned enterprise is intellectually stimulating. We offer excellent employee benefits, including health insurance - check them out here Staff benefits | Transpower.
**What will you bring?**
Curious, and outcome orientated with a depth of experience in health and safety, you'll be passionate about working with stakeholders to build their competence and confidence in health and safety to ultimately provide sustainable outcomes while providing safety assurance.
Highly organised with excellent verbal and written communication skills, you'll be able to tailor your style to the audience and engage and influence at all levels of the organisation, from the field to the executive leadership team.
**To be considered, your career to date, cover letter, and resume will demonstrate**:
- A tertiary qualification in Health and Safety and membership of a relevant industry professional organisation (New Zealand Safety Council / NZISM).
- Strong understanding of current New Zealand Health and Safety legislation and experience with driving positive outcomes in a medium to large multi-dimensional organisation
- Practical understanding and experience delivering positive outcomes in high-risk working environments.
- Experience in working with large contracting organisations and resource outsourcing operating models.
- Leading and supporting incident investigations using a recognised methodology e.g., ICAM.
- Undertaking health and safety assessments and/or inspections in both office and field environments.
- Producing accurate and high-quality reports, including the identification of trends and provision of insights (and subsequently resulting actions).
- A driver's licence is required, as this role comes with an allocated vehicle
**Join us at Transpower**
Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here. Every home, every marae, every electric vehicle, every hospital relies on the electricity we manage and deliver. This is your opportunity to join us on a mission that affects all New Zealanders, every day and long into the future.
With over twenty-eight nationalities, our people provide diverse perspectives, knowledge, and deep and varied experience which they love to share and which we celebrate. We work in the office or on-site for a minimum of three days each week, which helps us build and maintain relationships, support learning, deliver outcomes, and sustain our culture. This approach also offers staff the flexibility they need for both work and personal commitments, with adaptable daily start and finish times.
