The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand's cyber defence. We fulfil the cyber security responsibilities of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, to detect and disrupt high-impact cyber threats for nationally significant organisations.

**The role**
Our Engineers are at the core of award-winning cyber security technology that in recent years have won Service Excellence and Prime Minister's awards at the Public Service Commission's Spirit of Service Awards, as well as the iSANZ Award for the Best New Zealand Security Product or Service.

We are looking for an experienced Applications Engineer with a focus on delivering solutions in cloud, container orchestration platforms, and on-premises environments. This role works in a cross-functional team alongside architects and systems engineers to design, build and maintain capabilities in support of the National Cyber Security Centre's core cyber mission.

**Who we're looking for**

Your excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to develop positive and productive relationships with a range of people, technical or otherwise. Alongside this, to be successful in this role, you will also have:

- Strong experience deploying solutions within public cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
- A strong understanding of containerisation technologies like Docker, and experience working with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
- A good understanding of secure coding practices and experience integrating security into the development lifecycle (e.g. through automated security testing, dependency scanning, and secure CI/CD pipelines)
- Experience in designing, querying, and managing relational or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
- Familiarity in building and maintaining data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and delivery across systems or analytics platforms
- Experience working in Agile environments, with a clear understanding of iterative delivery and cross-functional collaboration

**Before you apply**

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15-year checkable background in countries NZSIS vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks

- Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876***:

- Level 3: $120,359 - $128,383
