Do you have experience interpreting legislation or making decisions in a regulatory or hearing environment?
Would you like to use those skills to serve community wellbeing across the Rotorua District?
We are seeking expressions of interest from people with legal, regulatory, or tribunal experience to join the Rotorua District Licensing Committee (DLC).
What will I be doing as a committee member?
How do I know if I am the right person for the job?
We’re looking for applicants with experience in fields such as law, regulatory compliance, investigations, mediation, or other tribunal or inquiry work. We also value professional insight from industries such as hospitality, tourism, health, education, and social services.
Strong analytical skills, impartiality, and an ability to assess evidence and interpret legislation are essential.
We are also seeking people who reflect Rotorua’s diversity, particularly those who can represent Māori, Pacific, rangatahi/youth, and migrant perspectives.
Are there any conditions that may exclude me from applying?
**You are not eligible if you**:
- are currently employed or contracted by Rotorua Lakes Council, or
- have a financial interest in, or employment with, any part of the alcohol industry (for example, a licensed premises, manufacturer, or supplier).
What is the time commitment?
This is a part-time, as-required role. We expect to hold around 15-20 hearings per year.
Hearings can range from a few hours to several days, depending on the complexity of the matter.
How does the recruitment process work?
Applications close Sunday 12 December 2025.
Interviews are expected to take place in December, with final appointments confirmed by mid-January 2026.
