This is a unique opportunity for a junior lawyer to join the Public Defence Service (PDS) Appeals Team to work on serious criminal cases being dealt with in New Zealand's highest Courts. Our small but talented team will mentor and support your development, and you will have access to our incredible national training programme.

**As a junior lawyer (Appeals), you will**:

- Complete legal research.
- Review case materials
- Write opinions.
- Draft submissions.
- Participate in client interviews with a senior lawyer.

To be successful you must be passionate about criminal justice issues and:

- Be qualified to practice law in New Zealand.
- Have excellent legal writing skills and superior attention to detail.
- Have a passion for research and an analytical mind.
- Be comfortable to be part of a team who support and rely on one-another.
- Have empathy and the ability to relate to a wide range of people.
- Want to build your legal knowledge in a criminal law environment.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be $65,015 to $83,498 dependant on skills and experience.
