About the Role

The Strategic Communications Lead will partner with the business group responsible for delivering significant regional investments and a centre for commercial expertise for the wider public service.

This role heads a small team of communication professionals, from advisor through to principal level, and is critical in driving the strategic communications objectives of the RDCS Group, in line with the overarching, long-term goals of MBIE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experience leading strategic communications functions
  • Extensive experience working with minister's offices and providing strategic communications advice
  • In-depth experience in issues and risk navigation, proactive engagement and communications planning
  • Comprehensive understanding of communications principles and frameworks, and working as part of a wider communications leadership team to deliver consistent, high-quality advice
  • Able to see the potential in people, finding ways to grow and develop a team to ensure the best possible communications support for the business
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with people at all levels
  • Proven success in building and leading a high-performing team in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of machinery of government, government processes, and experience working on cross-government initiatives
  • Highly tuned influencing and negotiation skills
  • Proven planning and organisational management skills to ensure the best use of team resources and expertise
  • Able to quickly understand customer needs and use these insights to drive proactive engagement
