We are seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to join our team at the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development. As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will play a key role in shaping and leading policy advice on the Government's role in tourism in Aotearoa. You will be responsible for driving demand from international visitors, ensuring the industry has the workforce it needs, and supporting our engagement with international trade partners and multilateral forums. You will also contribute to developing a deep understanding of the costs and benefits of tourism in New Zealand, thinking strategically about the role of Government in supporting the growth of tourism in New Zealand, and leading the Branch's engagement with international partners and forums. You will advise on how central government can invest effectively and partner with industry for impact. This role sits in the Tourism Economy and Environment Policy team within the Labour Science and Enterprise Group of MBIE. Our work drives Aotearoa's economic transformation and shapes economic development thinking to create a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive economy. In an ambiguous and complex environment, we work in partnership to actively provide respected and frank advice, to influence and coordinate, and deliver policy solutions that work. You will lead and deliver complex projects, providing robust advice to Ministers, and develop credible, respected relationships with diverse stakeholders (including Ministers, staff in partner agencies, industry partners, and other key external stakeholders). You will communicate complex issues clearly and coherently, and provide coaching and mentoring support to others. You will have a positive, 'can-do' attitude, and be flexible and adaptive to changes in requirements. We offer a salary range of $110K - $138K, Wellington CBD location, KiwiSaver and Wellness Benefits. The ideal candidate will have experience in economic development policy, interpreting data, and applying quantitative skills to produce insightful and evidence-based policy advice. They will be able to think analytically and strategically through issues, engage effectively with sector stakeholders to influence outcomes, and communicate complex issues clearly and coherently.
