At the heart of our programme is a desire to provide meaningful connections between volunteers and patients. As a Kōwhai Companion, you will be someone who can make a positive impact in the life of another.
About the ProgrammeThe Kowhai Programme trains volunteers to offer person-centred emotional support and practical assistance to patients in hospital.
This role involves engaging with patients, understanding their background, whānau, identity, personal preferences, and activities they enjoy. By doing so, you will provide comfort and companionship to those who need it most.
We are seeking individuals who are willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months and have two to three hours available per week.
Kōwhai Companion RoleThis is a non-patient contact role, excluding any personal cares, where you will provide support similar to that usually provided by whānau or friends.
Please note this is a volunteer position and is unpaid.
You will gain an understanding of the patient's needs and develop skills that can benefit your career.
By being part of the Kōwhai Companions Programme, you will contribute to the success of Burwood Hospital and become a valuable member of the hospital team.
