Family Support Professional

Join us at the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki, as a Youth Advocacy Manager and play a vital role in advocating for the rights and interests of tamariki and rangatahi. As a Youth Advocacy Manager, you will work collaboratively with whānau, hapū, iwi, and community partners to provide advocacy and support services.
About the Role | Mō Te TūngaThis is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and safety of tamariki and rangatahi. You will assess the needs of tamariki and rangatahi, and develop plans to address these needs in collaboration with their whānau and other relevant agencies.
Responsibilities- Advocate for the rights and interests of tamariki and rangatahi.
- Work collaboratively with whānau, hapū, iwi, and community partners to provide advocacy and support services.
- Assess the needs of tamariki and rangatahi, and develop plans to address these needs in collaboration with their whānau and other relevant agencies.
- Strengthen the capacity of whānau to care for their tamariki and rangatahi.
We are looking for an experienced Social Worker who has worked in Aotearoa in a similar role for a non-governmental organisation (NGO) sector and/or within Oranga Tamariki previously. The ideal candidate will have:
- Full registration with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) or eligible to apply
- A social worker qualification recognised by the SWRB
- A full, clean, current driver's licence
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to see past what someone may be struggling with
- Experience within the child protection sector, preferably within NZ
- The ability to analyse and prepare social work and other plans e.g. financial
- Able to demonstrate sound judgement and organisational skills
- The ability to manage risk and make tough decisions
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
- Great written skills, as you will need to write court reports, case notes, and other documents
