Conservation Specialist

**About the Role**
We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team as a Community Ranger. This role focuses on statutory elements of community work, including maintaining and developing relationships with community members.
The successful candidate will partner with key stakeholders, including Ski Field clubs and transport groups for Tongariro Crossing. They will be responsible for connecting with people and looking after our relationships at place.
As a Community Ranger, you will join the Operations team to work alongside our Treaty partners and communities to achieve great outcomes for conservation.
Main Responsibilities:
- Process permit applications for activities such as structures on conservation land, aircraft activity, commercial recreation, and works approvals for existing operators
- Maintain commercial and private activity on Public Conservation Land
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Support whanau, hapu, and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao
- Work with community groups to scope work projects on conservation land
- Operate within a statutory framework involving following process and procedure, to analyze and distribute information, and find mutually beneficial solutions
Requirements:

- A proven team player, well-organized, and great at relationships, communication, and problem-solving
- Versatile and resilient, able to tackle a variety of work
About the Team:
The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement, and visitor centre teams. The Tongariro team is close-knit, looks out for one another, and is passionate about the mahi that they do.
