Consultant Psychiatrist

We are looking for a skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Awhi Matua, a community-based service specializing in the assessment and treatment of older adults experiencing mental illness and/or cognitive change. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop high-quality services, focusing on the needs and preferences of our patients and their families/whānau.
The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for person-centered care, demonstrating a deep understanding of the complex issues affecting older adults' mental health. They will be adept at building collaborative relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and community partners, ensuring seamless service delivery and effective communication.
About the Position:
As a Consultant Psychiatrist at Awhi Matua, you will play a key role in developing and implementing innovative care pathways, fostering a culture of excellence, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Your expertise and leadership will help shape the future of our service, ensuring it remains responsive to the evolving needs of our patients and their whānau.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver high-quality care services, incorporating evidence-based practices and tailored approaches that meet individual needs and preferences
• Foster strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated care and support
• Lead and participate in quality improvement projects, driving innovation and excellence within the service
• Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues, helping to build capacity and enhance patient outcomes
• Stay up-to-date with emerging research, policy developments, and best practices in older adult's mental health, applying this knowledge to inform service design and delivery
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must hold a current Practicing Certificate or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Additionally, you should possess a full and clean driver's license, as this is a community-based role. Your commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori is essential, aligning with our organization's values and priorities.
