Role Overview:

We are seeking volunteers to join our Meals on Wheels program in Hamilton City. As a volunteer meal deliverer, you will play a vital role in supporting elderly, ill, and vulnerable individuals by delivering hot, healthy meals to their doors.

Purpose: The purpose of this role is to make a meaningful impact in the community by providing essential support to those who need it most.

Responsibilities:

  • Pick up meals from Waikato Hospital using your own vehicle.
  • Deliver meals to recipients, offering a brief, friendly chat at the door.
  • Enjoy the satisfaction of making a difference in your community.

Time Commitment:

  • Most drivers volunteer once a week or every two weeks, with flexible shifts.
  • Start times between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM.

Requirements:

  • A friendly, approachable personality.
  • Access to your own car and a valid driver's license.

Training & Support:

  • Comprehensive training provided to prepare you for the role.
  • Ongoing support from Red Cross staff and volunteers.

Onboarding Process:

  • Typically takes 2–6 weeks, depending on your availability and that of the local coordinator.
  • Police vetting is required; response times can range from a few days to about a month.

Health & Safety:

  • You'll be briefed on our Health, Safety, and Wellbeing policies during training.
  • Adherence to these procedures is essential while volunteering.

Shift Details:

  • Weekdays between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM.
  • Shifts take approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

Flexibility:

  • Regular shifts available weekly or fortnightly.
  • Casual drivers needed for short-notice availability.
