This newly created role offers you the chance to lead a dedicated team of veterinary services staff, drive innovation in animal welfare practices, and make a meaningful impact across the community.

As the Veterinary Services Director, you'll spearhead clinical operations and council's new desexing campaign, set the highest standards of animal care, and provide expert veterinary services and advice. You are:

  • A strong leader who can guide, support, and develop a high-performing team.
  • A compassionate and patient professional, dedicated to providing exceptional animal care.
  • Highly organised, with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A confident communicator who can educate staff, engage with the community, and collaborate across teams.
  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent).
  • Current registration with (or eligibility for) the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (VCNZ).
  • Full New Zealand driver's licence.

Auckland Council serves over 1.6 million people, providing essential services and facilities that contribute to our vision of becoming a world-class city for Tāmaki Makaurau ratepayers and residents.
