Main Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development: Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to the specific literacy and numeracy needs of each student, focusing on real-world applications.
  • Benchmark Testing and Tracking: Conduct initial and ongoing benchmark assessments to determine the literacy and numeracy levels of rangatahi, track and document student progress against set benchmarks, and adjust instructional techniques in response to individual performance.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Provide constructive and timely feedback to students on their progress, encouraging motivation and perseverance, and collaborate with students to set personal learning goals and milestones.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work alongside community organisations and agencies to connect students with additional resources and support services, and engage with families and whanau to foster a supportive learning environment and encourage student participation.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Teaching)
  • Experience in teaching literacy and numeracy to diverse learners, particularly those who are disengaged from traditional schooling
  • Strong understanding of individualised learning strategies and benchmarks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building rapport with rangatahi
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young adults in a non-traditional learning environment
