At Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, our mission is to ensure New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child. As a Social Worker, you will play a vital role in transforming the child protection system and making a positive impact on the lives of tamariki and their whānau.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join our team based at our Hamilton city site. As a key member of our Care and Protection team, you will work closely with colleagues and other stakeholders to assess the needs of tamariki and provide appropriate support and interventions.

The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to engage with whānau and establish working relationships with agencies, voluntary groups, and individuals.

Responsibilities
  • Engage directly with tamariki, their parents/caregivers, significant whānau or family group, and seek and reflect their views, wishes, and feelings.
  • Consider direct engagement with, and reflect the views and participation of, hapū and iwi when it may be relevant to tamariki.
  • Consult with the Care and Protection Resource Panel.
  • Engage and collaborate with key people working with each tamaiti, to ensure their full range of needs are identified and addressed in a coordinated way.
  • Support tamariki and their whānau or family when a specialist interview may be required.
  • Hold whānau and professional hui.
