The Job Description
This role will require someone adept in relationship management within Stats NZ and across the data system. Given that, we have a strong preference for Wellington-based candidates. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Confidently navigate the space between technical experts and policy-makers - data and statistical literacy and confidence in working with technical experts is required to be successful in this role
  • Excellent communication skills - with experience in presenting to, and preparing written advice for, Ministers and senior leaders, as well as both general and technical audiences
  • A strategic thinker - creative, innovative, and able to traverse, and find solutions to, novel and complex problems
  • Politically savvy - know how to identify and utilise appropriate levers of influence to successfully effect change, as well as an in-depth understanding of the machinery of government
  • Customer focused - adept at building alignment and alliances between competing interests and agendas, as well as navigating complex customer and stakeholder relationships
  • Familiarity with Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Ao, and Te Reo Maori, and experience in working with Maori, iwi, hapu, and Te Tiriti partners
