We are looking for an experienced Water Resilience Project Lead to join our passionate and skilled Knowledge - Water Resilience team. This full-time role is fixed term until March 2027, and can be based in Masterton or Wellington.
About the TeamThe Knowledge Water Resilience team within the Knowledge and Insights function oversees a range of projects focused on managing flood and erosion risks, including flood hazard modelling, targeted investigations, assessments of risk management options, and strategic regional studies. The team also offers advice and recommendations to both Greater Wellington and external stakeholders.
Role DescriptionIn your role as Water Resilience Project Lead, you will be responsible for:
- Leading investigation programmes to ensure timely and effective delivery
- Coordinating with internal teams and external consultants or contractors
- Ensuring projects are completed to high and professional engineering and scientific standards
- Identifying and evaluating opportunities for innovation, efficiencies, and improved systems in the planning and delivery of projects
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field, including experience related to river management
- Familiarity with the workings of a public sector organisation and regional council responsibilities
- A qualification and background in one or several of the following: civil/natural resources engineering, hydrology, geography, freshwater science, planning, or similar technical field associated with rivers or flood risk management
- Project management experience in leading engineering projects (risk, scale, and financial)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, at both the professional technical level, and with the general public
