About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Youth Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people and their whānau.

As a Youth Worker, you will be part of our collaborative team approach to decision making, planning, and case management. Your role will involve engaging with whānau and other professionals to support the development of young people's plans.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with Social Workers to bring the Care Standards to life and achieve positive outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position based in Tauranga. We offer a competitive salary starting from $57,760 to $65,334, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with whānau and other people involved in the rangatahi's plan
  • Work alongside Social Workers to support the mahi of bringing to life the Care Standards and positive outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi
  • Attend meetings with the rangatahi and other professionals from a range of different agencies
  • Making and coordinating appointments for rangatahi
  • Involving in activity-based and recreational programmes with our rangatahi
  • Taking young people to appointments that do not require a social worker's presence
  • Helping rangatahi to learn independence skills such as shopping and budgeting
  • Recording and other administrative tasks to support the team
  • Supporting rangatahi to attend visits e.g. with mental health and education services
  • May be required to attend visits to the home or with other whānau

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Familiar with Te Reo Māori and Tikanga
  • Full, clean, and current NZ Driver's License
  • An understanding of Oranga Tamariki as an organisation
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
  • While this is predominantly a business hours role, you may be required to work after-hours or weekends
