Rocket Lab Space Engineer Position
Rocket Lab is a global leader in launch and space systems, providing reliable access to orbit since 2018. Our Electron rocket has become one of the most frequently launched rockets in the world. We are committed to supporting scientific exploration, Earth observation, and missions to combat climate change and national security.
Job Description
We seek a Principal Development Engineer to help build the Neutron platform, our medium lift, reusable launch vehicle capable of human spaceflight. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with structural analysts, designers, manufacturing engineers, and the prototyping team to develop and execute the design and certification strategy for mechanical structures and mechanisms across the Neutron launch vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with mechanical engineers to rapidly assess conceptual designs, perform system trade studies, and develop integrated design solutions
- Define and document material architectural decisions from a component to system level, such as material selection, properties, and design allowables; process definition and control; inspection methods; and practices for continuous improvement
- Design and coordinate/execute testing to generate material property databases for metallic components
- Initiate, manage, and control projects including internal and external stakeholders to ensure they deliver on time, to scope, and within budget
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years' industry experience in the design, development, and test of material systems in a relevant technical field (e.g., Aviation, Aerospace, Automotive, Marine)
- Demonstrated experience with metallic materials and process development and qualification
- Experience with composites and related materials (prepregs, fibers, resins, cores, adhesives, coatings, etc.)
- Strong desire to learn new material in order to solve difficult, ambiguous challenges
Benefits
- We pride ourselves on having each other's backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small
- Our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way
Others
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Rocket Lab Employees must be a U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Department of Commerce, as applicable.
