The Role
We are seeking a talented Senior Façade Engineer to join our Christchurch team. To succeed in this role, you will have proven technical understanding of façade structures, secondary structures, and refurbishments of existing façade structures. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a global façade team while working in a tight-knit Christchurch office with great opportunities for career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide façade consultant services for PS1, PS2, and PS4 for NZ projects.
- Responsible for the facade design, management, delivery, and implementation of complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- The primary aim is on delivering projects of the highest quality, that are cost-effective and delivered as the best solution to the client and the project.
- Review contractor submissions; shop drawings and calculations.
- Undertake materials and products research, liaising with suppliers and contractors.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally at a high level working with developers and architects.
- Have a clear understanding of the key Standards and Codes relevant to the line of work. Proficient in NZ codes and on the path to being registered with the Auckland Council.
- Be responsible for the quality, accuracy, and timely completion of their own work.
- Review and take responsibility for deliverables produced by junior engineers & drafters.
- Take a lead role in design team/site meetings.
- Lead and manage the day-to-day correspondence with design team/contractor.
- Work with other façade teams in BG&E.
- Report day-to-day to Facade Lead (Vince) but also work closely day-to-day with Christchurch Lead (Domenico).
- Provide assistance for engineering calculations & reviews alongside H1 thermal analysis as it grows within New Zealand.
Project Management
- Lead and manage the facade design as well as the commercial delivery of multiple projects.
- Manage with assistance project resources and programme.
- Manage with assistance financial performance of all projects.
- Assist in contract review and any subconsultant engagement.
Business Development
- Assist the Facade Lead & Christchurch Lead to carry out Business Development and build the BG&E facades brand in the South Island.
- Assist to identify and pursue new opportunities and potential follow-on work.
- Develop proposals and bids on opportunities.
- Build direct relationships with managers in client organizations.
- Contribute to internal business improvement activities.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Degree qualified in either Structural or Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or other transferable manufacturing/engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in a façade design/engineering role as a Chartered Engineer or already working towards chartership.
- A completed portfolio of good mixture of small, medium to large scale projects with breadth of experience across a range of façade types.
- Good working knowledge of national and international design codes, technical guidance along with local council compliance pathways.
- Excellent knowledge of façade systems and construction techniques, procurement routes, and risk assessment.
- Versatile skillset including knowledge of detail design, structural and building physics, testing, inspections, and investigations and site experience.
- Excellent people skills and confident at influencing people (colleagues, clients, design team members, and contractors).
- Ability to work under pressure and hit deadlines.
- Ability to motivate individuals to work collaboratively as a team.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
