Job Overview:
As a Community Ranger with the Department of Conservation, you will play a key role in delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement and visitor centre teams. This role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve great outcomes for conservation. You will join a highly motivated community-based team that aspires to lead and advocate for conservation in the Tongariro District.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Key responsibilities include processing permit applications, monitoring commercial and private activity on Public Conservation Land, supporting whanau, hapu, and iwi, and promoting the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives. Additionally, you will work with community groups to scope work projects on conservation land and operate within a statutory framework involving following process and procedure.

Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience working within a statutory framework or similar process-based analytical environment. You must be comfortable working with whanau, hapu, and iwi and have a good understanding of te ao Maori me nga tikanga. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-player work style are also essential.
