Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Registrar to join our intensive care team at Dunedin Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, leading ward rounds, and contributing to the development of critical care services.

About the Role

  • Work as part of a dynamic and supportive team in a 22-bed mixed medical and surgical intensive care unit.
  • Contribute to registrar, SHO, and nursing education, sharing expertise and knowledge with colleagues.
  • Participate in echocardiography, ultrasound teaching, and simulation sessions to enhance skills and advance medical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with consultants and senior nurses to provide high-quality registrar education and support professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ward rounds and manage the unit overnight when on-call, working closely with SMO supervision.
  • Delegate tasks to registrars and SHOs, ensuring seamless delivery of patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of special skills, such as research, teaching, or management, through non-clinical time.
  • Participate in critical care fellowship training and education programs to stay up-to-date with best practices.

Requirements

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional general registration.
  • Minimum two years' post-qualification experience, preferably in anaesthetics or intensive care medicine.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
