About the Team

The Employee Relations team is responsible for providing strategic advice and support to our employees and stakeholders on employment-related matters. We are a dynamic and collaborative team that values innovation, creativity, and teamwork.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced employment lawyer to join our team as an in-house counsel for employee relations. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with our team to develop and implement employment-related strategies and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with ER and HR Advisory teams to manage legal risks and escalate employment-related issues.
  • Represent the organisation in employment disputes, mediations, and Employment Relations Authority proceedings.
  • Develop and maintain employment-related policies, guides, and documentation to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with union organisers and delegates to promote constructive engagement.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years post-qualification experience (PQE) as an employment lawyer with a current New Zealand practicing certificate or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent understanding of employment-related legislation and its application in operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice.
  • Calm under pressure and adaptable, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
