About the Role
The SPCA Auckland is seeking an experienced and passionate Animal Attendant to join their team. This is a permanent, full-time role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of animals in need.
As an Animal Attendant, you will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate care of all animals in the centre units. You will work closely with the animal care team to maximise adoptions and ensure the animal database is accurate and up-to-date at all times.
You will also assist with the coordination of routine veterinary visits and preparation of animals for these visits. Additionally, you will work with volunteers and other teams to improve animal pathways through the centre and enhance volunteer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the appropriate care of all animals in the centre units
- Maximise adoptions for as many animals as possible using all available avenues
- Assist with the co-ordination of all routine veterinary visits and preparation of animals for the same
- Work with volunteers and other teams to improve animal pathways through the centre and enhance volunteer experience
Requirements:
- Practical animal-handling experience and knowledge in behaviour and basic care
- Applicable tertiary qualification e.g. animal care, behaviour or welfare
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle conflict situations and a friendly and positive attitude
- Previous experience working in a similar role
- Flexible approach to the hours of work and ability to prioritise and effectively manage workloads
- Excellent data-entry & computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Demonstrate empathy and resilience
- Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment and a love for working with both people and animals
- Active and physically able to cope with the rigor of the job
- Full, current New Zealand driver's licence
- Self-motivated team player, who is enthusiastic and passionate about animal welfare
- Quick thinker who is skilled at multi-tasking
