About the Role

The Department of Marine Science at the University of Otago seeks applications for a Lecturer position in Marine Sciences. We are interested in applicants whose research lends itself to cross-disciplinary collaboration, demonstrating outstanding capability in research, teaching and communicating marine science.

Key areas of focus include biological oceanography, marine ecosystem modelling, or physical oceanography. Research should contribute to addressing societal concerns and aspirations, such as climate change mitigation, restoration of marine ecosystems, and sustainable use of marine resources.

We require candidates to demonstrate their capacity to teach and supervise students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in disciplines outlined above, but also broadly across marine science papers.

Marine Science values partnerships with Māori and Pacific communities and organisations. The successful applicant will support the University's commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and greater partnership with Pacific Island nations.

Responsibilities
  1. Teach and supervise students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  2. Conduct research in marine sciences, including biological oceanography, marine ecosystem modelling, or physical oceanography
  3. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance existing departmental strengths and establish new capacity and expertise in teaching and research
Requirements
  • PhD degree (with Post-Doctoral experience preferable)
  • High-quality publications in relevant area of marine science
  • Able to communicate marine science effectively
  • Collaborative and collegial work style
