The Faculty of Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering at The University of Auckland is committed to advancing the field of electrical power systems engineering through innovative research and development. We are seeking a Research Fellow to strengthen our Power Systems Group (PSG) and contribute to our ongoing research projects.

Our team has gained international recognition for its work in areas like power systems, inductive power transfer, radio communications, embedded computing, robotics, advanced control systems, and advanced complex software systems. As a Research Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on projects that address current and emerging issues impacting the modern electricity infrastructure.

This role will involve collaborating with other researchers, industry partners, and international organizations to integrate distributed/renewable energy sources into New Zealand's power systems. You will have the chance to develop your skills in areas like smart-grid, storage, and HVDC technologies, and contribute to the success of this nationally significant 7-year strategic program.

This is a fixed-term role for 24 months, full-time, with a salary range of $87,772 - $94,981 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

  • 2-3 years of experience following a PhD in industry, research organization, or a research-intensive university as a Post-doctoral fellow, research engineer, or innovation engineer
  • A research background in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to convert ideas into building laboratory prototypes
  • Excellent research capabilities required to carry out innovative and insightful research
  • A publication track record and experience preparing quality oral presentations to various audiences is essential
  • Understanding or good knowledge of electricity supply networks
  • Good programming and modeling skills (e.g., C/C++, Python, Matlab)
  • Strong computer literacy and numeric skills, use of database management tools and statistical analysis software, and modeling skills would be an advantage
  • The ability to undertake collaborative research and communicate complex ideas to scientific and non-scientific audiences
