We are the national agency for place-based heritage in Aotearoa, responsible for celebrating, researching, caring for, and assisting communities to recognise and protect our cultural heritage.

The Maori Heritage Team has a strong track record of working with whanau, marae, hapu, and iwi to identify, conserve, and protect our taonga places.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the team's efforts in preserving and revitalising Maori built heritage.

About the Role

  • Provide expertise in Maori heritage policy matters.
  • Draft submissions to public bodies advocating for Maori heritage protection.
  • Support the provision of advice and support to iwi and hapu in preservation and revitalisation of Maori built heritage.
  • Contribute to research aimed at recognising Wahi Tapu and Wahi Tupuna on the Rarangi Korero Heritage New Zealand List.

Your Skills and Expertise

  • Excellent knowledge of Maori history and culture.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
