Senior Test Automation Specialist

Our team at Rocket Lab USA is working on developing Neutron, a new, medium-lift, reusable launch vehicle. We are seeking an experienced Lead Test Automation Engineer to join our team.
This role involves managing the development and commissioning of automated test equipment across the Neutron program. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and excellent organizational skills, ensuring efficient use of engineering resources to progress the program through development, qualification, and production testing phases.
The ideal candidate will have experience with automated test setups in a development or production environment, as well as a proven ability to seek, author, and/or synthesize system requirements. Strong communication and collaboration skills are also essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute test rig builds across multiple technical workstreams
- Proactively engage stakeholders across hardware, software, and production functions
- Develop, communicate, and mediate technical and user requirements across technical teams
- Actively prioritize projects according to program needs, adapting to unforeseen changes
- Support designers and test engineers across development and qualification test campaigns
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and shared-service teams across the business, leading through influence to deliver against Neutron's rapid development roadmap
- Steer and establish common approaches to test equipment design and deployment
- Be the single point of contact for automated test facility creation across electrical and electromechanical components for the Neutron vehicle
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
- Degree in electrical and/or software engineering, or equivalent qualification
- 5+ years relevant professional experience
- Proven experience with automated test setups in a development or production environment
- Proven experience in seeking, authoring, and/or synthesizing system requirements
- Working knowledge of project management tools and processes (e.g., Gantt charts)
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with test rig/rack/cart specification and builds
- Hands-on experience executing environmental qualification or acceptance testing campaigns
- Experience developing human-machine interfaces (HMIs) or graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or C++
- Experience with Linux operating systems
