This is a structured one-year Fellowship position at Dunedin Hospital/University of Otago, specializing in General Gastroenterology/Endoscopy/IBD.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work closely with the Clinical Director, Consultant Physicians, Registrar, Clinical Nurse specialists, and Nurse Practitioner to ensure an efficient and high-quality service.

Fellows should be proficient in most of the skills and procedures outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors.

A work week includes 1:6 Gastroenterology on-call under supervision as needed, research, in- and outpatient specialist service, rural clinics, and endoscopy.

Supervision, both direct and indirect, will be provided by other SMOs including a consultant available for advice at all times when on call.

This is an excellent opportunity to hone specialist skills before becoming fully vocationally registered.

Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialities offering a varied and challenging array of all aspects in Gastroenterology.

We have subspecialty clinics in hepatology and IBD which allows research into aspects of these disciplines.

We work in close collaboration with the University of Otago.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with exceptional interpersonal skills who builds effective relationships both within and external to their team.

They will also demonstrate solution-focused decision making and priority setting in a clinical environment.

An enthusiasm for teaching and passing on their knowledge to junior members of staff and University students is essential.

The successful applicant must be in their last six months of Gastroenterology advanced training.
